No mesmo ano, Cust\u00f3dio Alves dos Reis deu in\u00edcio a constru\u00e7\u00e3o da Igreja Matriz, conclu\u00edda cinco anos depois pelo Padre Anacleto Soares da Veiga. Em 1774, o templo recebeu a imagem do Cristo Crucificado, escultura que era uma reprodu\u00e7\u00e3o da que adornava a igreja de Salvador e fora ofertada por Gabriel Gon\u00e7alves da Silva.
