Por volta de 1750 come\u00e7ou a constru\u00e7\u00e3o da igreja, no ent\u00e3o Arraial do Senhor do Bonfim da Tapera. Durante a d\u00e9cada de 1910 foram iniciadas as obras de remodela\u00e7\u00e3o e amplia\u00e7\u00e3o da igreja, idealizadas pelo C\u00f4nego Pedro Hugo Teixeira.
